What does Joppa mean?

As we searched through the Bible, we came across several choices. Some names were hard to pronounce and some just didn’t have the right meaning for our business. We wanted the name to represent the kind of work we want to do, work that is very pleasing to our clients. Joppa, meaning beautiful in Greek, was the word that seemed to fit.

Joppa is a city in Israel. It was a large city in its time and was a location of trade and activity. Located just west of Jerusalem, its harbor made it an ideal city for business and travel. It is known variously in The Bible (we found it in Acts) as Japho, Jaffe, or Yafo. Today, the ancient city of Joppa is annexed to the modern city of Tel Aviv, Israel's largest city.

If you are familar with the story of Jonah and the whale (actually a "big fish"), Joppa is the city where Jonah found a ship and fled, going against God's call to travel to Ninevah.
